Spring in the Green Mountains

Why do we love spring in the Green Mountains at Sterling Ridge Log Cabins?

For lots of reasons! Spring in the Green Mountain state of Vermont means budding trees and flowers, birds returning, festivals, hiking, fishing, maple sugar season and a lot more!

A sure sign of spring is all the budding trees and flowers and the mountains sides turning green with color again. After all, the green is how the Green Mountain state got its name: Vermont. The French explorer Samuel de Champlain called the Green Mountains of Vermont “Verd Mont” (green mountain.) At Sterling Ridge Log Cabins, there are meadows and gardens excited for the warm weather of spring to ease the blossoms into full bloom. Come experience the beauty of the Green Mountains in the spring, right from your very own cabin.

The Vermont Maple Festival in St. Albans, Vermont is a tradition in the Green Mountains for over 50 years! The Maple Fest takes place annual in April. Events include a carnival, parade, 8.5-mile run, live entertainment and LOTS of Vermont maple food and beverages.

The Green Mountains offer a vast number of Vermont state parks and hiking options. Near to Sterling Ridge Log Cabins are Underhill State park, Smugglers Notch State park and Green River Reservoir in Hyde Park. Other hiking options to help you explore the Green Mountains are The Long Trail (yes, it isn’t just a famous beer), The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail and the trails at Sterling Ridge Log Cabins. The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT) is a multi-use, year-round, recreation trail that spans through the northern portion of Vermont.

The Green Mountains of Vermont are also known for their crystal clear freshwater ponds and lakes. At Sterling Ridge Log Cabins, we happen to have two beautiful ponds! Green Mountain Troutfitters in Jeffersonville, Vermont suggests taking advantage of our private ponds to fish this spring. Grab your rod and reel because the 2016 season has begun!

There is so much to do while visiting the Green Mountains, two days at Sterling Ridge Log Cabins just isn’t enough!
